The famous duo, Gardner and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform a live performance of "Salome," which will showcase the full range of the orchestra. The strong lineup of Scandinavian and German singers is also noteworthy! Edward Gardner, who assumed the position of principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2021/22 season, has a strong image as a symphony conductor in Japan, but in 2007, at the age of 32, he was appointed music director of the English National Opera, and he is currently music director of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. He is also highly acclaimed for his stage works. This recording is a live performance of Gardner's appearance at the Edinburgh Festival with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he has been chief conductor since 2015, and it shows the orchestra in all its glory. The vocal lineup is also strong, led by Marin Byström, who is well known as a contemporary Salome singer, as well as other excellent singers from Scandinavia and Germany. According to the recording data, this was a one-day live recording, but the quality is superb. When Gardner retired as chief conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic at the end of the 2023/24 season, the orchestra honored him with the title of honorary conductor in the hope that they would continue to work together.
