Description:
French master Clérambault's interpretations of religious works showcase his vocal aptitude to the fullest. Clérambault was a French Baroque composer who skillfully interweaved influences of the Italian style with the French courtly style of music composition. He was an expert in cantatoire (small-scale secular vocal music with French lyrics), publishing a total of five collections between 1710 and 1726, at a time when his contemporary Vivaldi was publishing concerto collections one after the other, and he was also the resident organist at St. Surpis Church in Paris. He was also the resident organist of St. Surpis Church in Paris, where he also excelled in church music, but these are rarely recorded compared to his cantatas. This new recording from Versailles is a perfect opportunity to quench that thirst. The festive choral piece "Te Deum" is paired with the unusual Latin oratorio "The Tale of the Adulteress," which deals with the famous anecdote of Jesus' words, "Let only the innocent cast stones at her. The performance was conducted by the famous singer Van Mechelen, who has been in love with Clérambault since she was a music student and has recorded his cantatas for ALPHA, and was accompanied by instrumentalists consisting of 3 violins, 2 flutes (with Anna Besson), 1 trumpet & timpani and bass (viola da gamba by Kaori Kamimura) in the second section, 3 violins in each part, 2 flutes (with Anna Besson), 1 trumpet & timpani and bass (viola da gamba by The elite Namur Chamber Choir consists of 3 to 4 members in each part.In the "Te Deum," the natural trumpet sounds beautifully, and the beautiful voices of not only the chorus but also the soloists, including Van Mechelen, create a beautiful melodic beauty. This is a rich and complete recording of the best of French music on the eve of Rameau's rise to prominence. Naxos Japan
