Orchestral Music of the Renaissance" sheds new light on a treasure of English music, "Lacrimée. Dowland was a lutenist and composer active in England and abroad during the 16th and 17th centuries. His most famous instrumental ensemble, "Lacryme, or Seven Tears," is generally performed in a chamber orchestra with small and large viols, but the title page suggests the use of other instruments such as lute and violin, so it can be understood that the choice of instruments used is flexible. Based on this premise, the Capriccio Stravagante is a rich composition with a viol ensemble (including Lucille Boulanger), several recorders, woodwind cornet, and sackbutts, and several keyboard instruments to approach the sound world of 400 years ago. If the publication of music scores was a valuable means of publicity for composers, and if flexible orchestration was proposed to meet the demands of those in power who sometimes had large ensembles, then such a large-format interpretation should also meet the aims of the composers of the time. ...... is what the booklet says. The fact that there are many dances after the seven Pavan "Tears" in the collection is just another compilation convention, and Sempé's rearrangement of the order of the pieces into a suite style based on the combination of Pavan and Galliard, while transposing some of the pieces, is also appropriate.The tranquil sound of the violins alone is sometimes accompanied by the rich bass sound of the violone, the richness of the wind instruments, and the mysterious taste of the keyboard plucked strings, all of which are captured by the splendid lineup of soloists.
