Lazarevitch(Fl)Les Musiciens De Saint-julien

Description:

Lazarevich's newly discovered manuscripts reveal the subtleties of flute music by an unexpected composer. Under the patronage of Louis XIV, the Sun King, the French Baroque master Marais composed nearly 600 works for the viol (viola da gamba), a bowed string instrument that he himself excelled at playing. He also composed operas and chamber music, and there are many recordings of his works, though not as many as for the viol, but when it comes to works composed by Mallet with the flute as the main instrument (i.e., not arranged), even experts were completely unaware of their existence. In 2023, however, two 18th century manuscripts for flute surfaced. They contain a number of flute works that bear the Malle name, but for which no original works have been found in his known viol repertoire. The music, which is not yet known as "flute music by Marais," will be thoroughly examined by François Lazarevich, a master musician with a deep knowledge of French music of the Baroque period, who also plays the traverso (Baroque flute) and various bagpipes. The music, performed by veteran string player Eric Belloc, known for his collaboration with the famous singer Dominique Vis, and viol player Lucille Boulanger, who is also active as a soloist, is as delicate and masterful as any of his works, all written in an intimate atmosphere without using a harpsichord as a bass continuo. The music is full of delicate masterpieces that suggest the possibility that Malle, who conducted a court orchestra full of virtuoso players, was interested in the flute and composed music for it. The Japanese version of the CD includes a commentary by the player himself, which is translated into Japanese, and is sure to bring new life to the composer and to the interpretation of French music.
