The second Stokowski box set from BBC Legends is now available. The second volume of Stokowski's "Great Recordings", a set of five albums released on the BBC Legends label and the Dutch Radio Broadcasting Corporation, has been very well received. This time, three titles are included: a Russian program, a Wagner program, and Stokowski's only recording of a Tippett concerto. In addition, three new CD recordings from the BBC archives are now available. It is a great pleasure to include works in his repertoire such as "The Ninth" and "Pictures at an Exhibition," which are known for their bombast and virtuosity, as well as "The New World," which was recorded about a month after the RCA recording, "The Ninth" just after the Decca recording, and Tchaikovsky No. 5, also just before the Decca recording. It is a major highlight to be able to listen to these passionate recordings of live performances with the same orchestra and soloists around the time of the famous masterpieces. All of these recordings have never been officially released. Once again, Paul Bailey of Re:Sound has carefully remastered the sound that Stokowski himself wrote down, with his ideal sound as the goal. The unique agogic and instrumental method can be enjoyed clearly and dynamically. Before the encore performance of "Khovanshchina," Stokowski himself humorously addresses the audience. This is a treasure box for fans. The set does not include a booklet. All recordings use the latest remastering by Paul Bailey. Naxos Japan
