Description:
A collection of Baroque arias full of fun to discover, featuring Mameli's flexible singing. Italian soprano Roberta Mameli, known for her exquisite interpretation of Baroque works, presents a new solo album on the ARCANA label, which has been discovering and introducing the hidden charms of Italian classical music. The program sheds light on "Ambulate," an opera libretto for the tragedy of Hamlet written in 1705 by A. Zeno ( 1668-1750), one of the most important Italian dramaturgical librettists before the great master Metastasio. The script is based on an early 12th-century source that predates Shakespeare's play, and is unique in that Veremonda, the female equivalent of Hamlet's mother or Ophelia in Shakespeare's play, plays a major role in the opera. Mameli carefully selects the best pieces from these later works, including numbers from Gasparini's first work, without being misled by the composer's fame, and interprets the psychology of the women depicted in Zeno's script and the men played by the castrato in the first performance with flexibility. In addition to the secret works of the young Handel and D. Scarlatti, as well as the works of Pollarolo, Gasparini, and other great composers who were making Vivaldi's eve in Venice exciting, Carcani's arias from 1742, which were active on the eve of the classical era, are stylish and appealing. Le Concert de l'Hôtel-Dieu, an ancient instrumental group from Lyon in the south of France that performs with a variety of soloists, also gives a neat and enthusiastic performance, making the pleasure of encountering unknown works even more intense.
