Description:

Composer Pamela Harrison was born in Kent, England. She studied composition with Gordon Jacob and piano with Arthur Benjamin at the Royal College of Music, and married cellist Harvey Phillips in 1943. He continued to compose, mainly chamber music. This album, one selected by clarinetist Robert Blaine, is a good introduction to Harrison's work. Beginning with the Cello Sonata, premiered in 1947 and highly praised by his teacher Jacob as "the finest contemporary work," the album continues with The Kindling of the Day, a collection of songs with a delicate expression that was performed by the BBC and Wigmore Hall to great acclaim, and songs using poems by Bronte and Dawson. The Kindling of the Day", a collection of songs with delicate expressions, and songs on poems by Bronte and Dawson. Although the number of large-scale works declined around this time, a few small pieces for close friends did emerge.Eventually, in the 1980s, she regained her creative spirit and wrote works that focused on classical instrumentation and rural themes, such as the Beethoven-inspired Sextet and the Rural Octet, as well as beautiful landscape paintings such as the one used on the cover. He died in Brighton after 75 years of life. Listen to the beautiful voice of James Gilchrist and the performance by the Royal Welsh Chamber Players, an ensemble of virtuoso singers. Naxos Japan
