Trio Gaspard's series of recordings of Haydn's complete piano trios. This fourth collection includes four works written between 1789 and the 1990s.No. 26, which was composed in haste at the request of the publisher; No. 34, written during Haydn's stay in London; No. 36, written around the same time and dedicated to Maria Helmenegild, Marquise of Esterházy; and No. 31, written around 1792. No. 31 was first published as a sonata for violin and piano, but the presence of a cello part in later editions suggests that Haydn conceived it as a trio. Lastly placed was "Trance," written by Sally Beamish for Trio Gaspard, a meditative five-and-a-half-minute work on the theme of "change, transition, and disappearance" that draws influence from Haydn's Piano Trio No. 40 and her own relationship with her mother, who suffers from dementia. Trio Gaspard was founded in 2010 by members from Germany, Greece, and England. The talented ensemble has won the Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in Weimar and the Haydn International Chamber Music Competition in Vienna, and has been actively performing Haydn's works since its founding.
