A collection of arias that maximizes the beauty of this up-and-coming singer and talented conductor. Corsican soprano Vanina Santoni, who has made remarkable progress in the past decade and is steadily expanding her activities in Europe, has produced a rich program of selected arias from the masterpieces that dominated Italian and French opera from the late 19th to the early 20th century, with a focus on Santoni's best-known roles. The program is a collection of arias from the great operas of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Italy and France. Jean-Marie Zeitouni, a talented conductor from French-speaking Canada who also collaborated with Santoni on the complete recording of Massenet's "Griseldis" (BZ1058, released in January 2025), will conduct. The work is a delicate microcosm of the famous scene itself, which is detached from the main part of the opera, and is complete in itself. The Orchestre National de Lille's meticulous ensemble is also superb.Starting with "Resurrection," an ambitious work based on Tolstoy's original that makes us realize the true value of Alfano as more than just an assistant author for Puccini's "Turandot," to the orchestral accompaniment version of the last Tomasi song, which also has roots in Santoni, this disc is full of moments that showcase the frontiers of the European opera world.
