Jean-Louis Nicodet was a German pianist, composer, and conductor who was active in the Dresden music scene at the end of the 19th century and later became a professor at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Dresden, where he both taught and composed. This album contains three piano pieces, recorded for the first time in the world.Italian Folk Dances and Songs" was dedicated to his friend Henri de Jonge van Eremate, and was later arranged and published for piano four hands by another friend. It is a lively piece that begins with a technical tarantella, continues with a well-sung canzonetta and a boat song, and ends with a passionate saltarello. The Piano Sonata in F minor is a dense work that shows the influence of Beethoven. The Scherzo, composed in 1878, is a superbly crafted work dedicated to Max Pauer, son of pianist and educator Ernst Pauer.
