An album of bassoon concertos by Jaakko Ruoma and the Tapiola Sinfonietta. While the previous album (ODE-1324) focused on works by Mozart and Hummel, this album focuses on four bassoon concertos written for the Swedish bassoonist, Carl Proymayr of France, who was active in Sweden in the first half of the 19th century.The album includes works by well-known composers such as Proumayr's father-in-law Krusell and Berwald, as well as lesser-known composers such as Edouard du Puy and Eduard Brendler. All of these concertos are technical and superbly crafted, offering a glimpse into the high standards of Scandinavian music of the time. Ruoma is an experienced bassoonist who studied at the Sibelius Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory and has won prizes at international competitions. He is currently a member of the Tapiola Sinfonietta. Tapiola Sinfonietta is one of Finland's leading chamber orchestras, internationally acclaimed for its wide repertoire and high level of expressiveness. The orchestra is also committed to performing without a conductor, and Janne Nissonen conducts the ensemble with great elongation in the present work. (Naxos Japan)
