This album recreates the music that resounded at the Dresden court on Christmas Day 400 years ago. Rohir Michael (von Bergen) was a composer and conductor of the Franco-Flemish school of music. He moved to Vienna as a child and honed his musical talent; he studied under Andrea Gabrieli in Venice from 1569 to 1572, then returned to Germany and joined the Dresden court orchestra from 1575; in 1587 he was appointed conductor of the court orchestra of the Elector of Saxony, and his sons were His sons also grew up as musicians. Influenced by the Italian music that was popular at the time, he developed his own style of composition, and his "A Christmas Tale," composed in 1602, was so successful that it was performed at the Dresden court for 50 years. This album is a recreation of a series of concerts on Christmas Eve 1624, in which the original "The Christmas Story" is interspersed with motets, chorales, and hymns by other composers to form a liturgy for worship.
