The master painter Jean Richiafort, a great master in the service of the Habsburgs and the French royal family, was active in the cities of the Habsburg Netherlands (now Belgium) during the early and late periods of his career, and spent most of his life working with Louis XII, Queen Anne of Brittany, and François I, the broad cultural advocate who succeeded Louis XII. The masterful art of this composer, who is best known for his Requiem for the death of his mentor, the great Josquin des Prez, will be introduced here through two polyphonic masses and their originating works. The eight-member a capella ensemble will be led by Hana Vladiková, who is well known in Japan for her performances with the Bach Collegium Japan, and will be joined by Barbara Kabatková, who has performed many medieval works with Hana, and Tomáš Kral, who has demonstrated an outstanding aptitude for ancient music and modern and contemporary songs. The recording is aesthetically pleasing, with the movements of each part coming through clearly in the moderate reverberation of the church hall, thanks to the skill of Aleš Dvožák, an engineer with a long record of Czech players' vocal music for SUPRAPHON and ACCENT.The technique of the parody mass (a mass in which a specific existing melody is used as the basis of all movements), which was also explored by Josquin, is deployed in every direction, and you will enjoy the polyphonic wonder of the piece, which sometimes utilizes specific parts as solo parts and unfolds freely.
