Description:

Joseph Chavansaud de La Barre, who was active in the first half of the reign of Louis XIV, the Sun King, was a year older than Lully, who was born in Italy and established a foreign style of music with basso continuo at the French court, In contrast to Lully, who was a year older and from Italy, and whose music was rooted in the French court, Banso de la Barre greatly developed the ancient French art of vocal music, which is inextricably linked to literary refinement and conveys the beauty of the lyrics as poetry. Although his works are often featured in recordings of court songs, it is surprisingly rare for a single album of his works to be compiled. This long-awaited new recording features the beautiful voice of Claire Lephiliatre, a rare singer of ancient music who has graced the early masterpieces on the ALPHA label, and the ensemble of Stéphane Fougere, a conductor who has gained a solid reputation in the world of French ancient music in recent years. Fugé's clavecin, which seems to tell a story, is a perfect match for La Barre Art, and the sound of the gut strings on the viol, which gently accompanies the French poetry, and the delicate sounds of the theorbo, which string together notes with exquisite timing, are both breathtakingly beautiful. The warm voice of Bertin-Hugo, an up-and-coming male singer, also conveys the poetic beauty of the music well (this album is dedicated to the memory of Nicolas Watinne, who died young after recording this album). This is an excellent recording that brings us into contact with the cutting edge of the virtuosity of Lefriatre and Fugé, who have been visiting Japan on an increasing number of occasions.
