Newly remastered Mendelssohn by master conductor Commissina, who made the reputation of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. A Summer Night's Dream" is the first appearance. Born in Bucharest, Romania in 1928, Serge Comissiona showed early talent as a violinist. He also made his debut as a conductor at the age of 17 under the tutelage of Silvestri and others, and served as the conductor of the National Opera in Romania. He then moved to Israel before settling in the United States, where he served as principal conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for 15 years, quickly building the orchestra's reputation. The carefully arranged balance and seamless finish convey this conductor's ability.This is a release in the AUDIOPHILE EDITION, in which the analog sound sources produced by Elite Recordings, a combination of Mark Aubort and Joanna Nicklenz, known for their excellent recordings, are digitized at 24bit/192kHz by renowned engineer Mike Clements. Commissina and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's main recording destination was Vanguard, but Mendelssohn's Symphonies Nos. 3, 4, and 5 and "Fingal's Cave" were released on VOX Turnabout. No. 3 "Scotland" was released in 1975 as a coupling with "Fingal's Cave" (LP number: QTVS 34604), but the four pieces from "A Summer Night's Dream" that are coupled here are previously unreleased recordings discovered in VOX's master tape warehouse. According to the label information, "Fingal's Cave" will be released soon together with No. 4 & No. 5. (Naxos Japan)
