Romancero Hitano" by Castelnuovo-Tedesco is a suite for mixed chorus and guitar based on a poem by Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. It is characterized by dramatic contrasts and rich polyphony between the melancholy guitar melody and the lively chorus, and this album is performed in the latest comparative revision. Corrado Margutti's "Rivers" was inspired by "Romancero Hitano" and pays homage to Castelnuovo-Tedesco and other composers. The ITER Research Ensemble is a vocal ensemble founded in 2022 by young musicologists from the University of Pavia in Cremona. They have studied and performed and collaborated with renowned artists and academic institutions, premiering works by Luciano Berio and Margutti. This recording marks their debut.Giovanni Cestino is an ethnomusicologist and conductor, and co-founder and music director of the ITER Research Ensemble. Niccolo Spera is a performer on 6- and 10-string guitar who has worked to expand the guitar repertoire and has commissioned, performed, and recorded many new works. Previous recordings include complete guitar works by Maurice Oana and Christopher Theofanidis and arrangements of Bach's cello suites. (Naxos Japan)
