Henrik Dam Thomsen, solo cellist of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra for more than 20 years, has been working on the complete Bach "Unaccompanied" cycle. In the CD commentary (in English and German), Thomsen states that "I have had much to gain from reviewing the wealth of today's musicological knowledge, and from being exposed to performances on gut-string baroque cellos and gambas," and ultimately decided to record the works on his favorite instrument, which he plays with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra on a daily basis.The cello was made by Francesco Ruggieri in 1680 (modern specification) throughout all six pieces, the bow is Max Schaffner, and the strings and pitch (442 Hz) are modern. This is a sincere performance nurtured by facing myself and asking myself many questions during the time of the Corona Disaster. (Naxos Japan)
