In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Holst's birth, many previously unreleased recordings, including "The Planets" by Boult & Boston Symphony Orchestra, are now available on CD! To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Holst's birth, the British reissue label ARIADNE is releasing a number of rare recordings on CD. The big one is "The Planets" conducted by Boult. The first recording of "The Planets" was made in January 1945 when he conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and this reissue is from about a year later. This is the first time that Boult conducted an American orchestra in "The Planets" (according to Michael Gray and the discogs website). The other pieces are also attractive in that they feature big names such as Imogen Holst, Mackerras, Del Mar, Sargent, and Pears. Naxos Japan
