CD debut of Maciej Szkuczkowski, winner of the Bruges International Old Music Competition in 2023! Maciej Szkuczkowski, born in Poland in 2001, has attracted worldwide attention by winning the first prize at the Bruges International Old Music Competition in 2023, and has already made a successful tour of Japan from March to April 2024. His first album to be released on the RICERCAR label is a collection of works by British composer John Bull. In addition to the English-style action virginal, he uses a reproduction of a rare instrument called the Moeder & Kind Virginal by Johannes Lukkers of Antwerpen. The two can be played separately, or stacked together to create an interlocking upper and lower section. This album is a colorful depiction of the works of Bull, who is said to have made a name for himself as a musician and instrument maker in England, but whose lack of moral character led him to leave for the Netherlands, where he spent the latter half of his life in Antwerpen, using instruments characteristic of the two countries.Japanese commentary by Tsutomu Sasaki, Naxos Japan
