The Gomaran Brass Quartet performs Victor Evald's brass quintet, well-known to brass band fans! Victor Evald was a Russian-born cellist and composer. Although he was a construction engineer by profession, he was also active as an amateur musician, playing the cello as a member of the "Belyaev Circle," a group led by Mitrofan Belyaev, who supported musicians in St. Petersburg at the time. He also originally played the cornet, and by 1912 had composed three brass quintets (including No. 4, which is said to be an arrangement from a string quartet). These are the earliest works in the brass quintet genre, and are highly acclaimed for their technical performance style. In particular, No. 1, Op. 5, which uses a Russian folk melody in the third movement, is a work that is often performed even today. The album also includes the Brass Quintet composed by Alexander Tcherepnin in 1970, a cheerful work filled with homage to the homeland of Tcherepnin, who fled to Paris to escape the Russian Revolution.Performed by the Gomaran Brass Quintet, formed in 1999 by five Italian brass players.
