Description:
The concerto is said to have been composed by Count Franz Anton (Czech name: František Antonín) von Spork of Bohemia, who first encountered the horn when he visited the court of Louis XIV in 1680. He was so fascinated by the instrument that he sent two servants to France to learn how to play it. The hunting horn (Corno de Chasse) was introduced to Bohemia at this time, and was later improved and spread throughout Europe. As the technique of the players improved, the works began to include more difficult passages.The album features the brilliant Fasch concerto and other orchestral works featuring a variety of horns, including some concerto-like works in which solo instruments play an active role, even if they are considered symphonies, since there was no clear division of concertos in the early 18th century. Soloists Stefan Katte and Sebastian Fischer use both natural horn and finger-holed tromba da caccia, and also make full use of the old-fashioned technique of not using stops to change pitch according to the position of the hand in the bell, depending on the piece.
