Description:
The essence of English Baroque chamber music, as pursued by Rachel Podger and a group of talented old-time musicians] Rachel Podger, a British virtuoso who dominates the world of Baroque violin, will present a rich program of English chamber music from the 17th and early 18th centuries. However, after the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, England gradually regained its former vigor and richness, and a new world of music blossomed, greatly influenced by the latest trends in France and Italy. This album was made in the midst of the momentum of this movement. This disc begins with the sonatas of Handel, a German composer who found a way out in the midst of the momentum of the Restoration, and traces back the period to the chamber music on the eve of the Revolution that laid the foundation of the new trend during the Restoration, and then gradually moves chronologically to the 18th century, touching on Scottish and Irish folk music that attracted English people in the Baroque period. The flow traces the changes in British music. All the players, including not only Podger's violin, but also Reiko Ichise, a gamba player who has been active in a wide range of fields based in England, and Elizabeth Kenny, a plucked string player who is proficient on both Renaissance and Baroque lutes, continued to show their fresh presence through musical dialogues, as if they were talking with spontaneity and a high sense of communication. It is like a conversation between English aristocrats spun out with spontaneity and a high sense of communication. The exquisite engineering of virtuoso engineer Jared Sachs also conveys the flavor of each ancient instrument to the fullest extent, and this is a profound album that brings back to life the true face of the musical art of the time, which had great significance in the social life of the people of high rank. Japanese translation of the commentary on the domestic edition by Tatsuo Shirasawa, Naxos Japan.
