Pacific Quintet

Description:

Pacific Quintet, a woodwind quintet born out of PMF, releases its debut album! We are pleased to announce the release of our first album "United" by the Pacific Quintet, a unique international woodwind quintet consisting of five members from Turkey, Honduras, Germany, Korea, and Japan. Each of us has his/her own personality and color, and although we speak different languages and cultures, we are able to play music as one when we play our instruments. We have chosen Bernstein's West Side Story, which is our roots, and five composers and arrangers from our home countries. From Japan, we have included a medley of Japanese children's songs. Japanese children's songs from long ago have not faded away and are still known by all people, young and old. Through this CD, I hope that many people will discover the charm of the woodwind quintet and experience the music of the world with their whole body. Kenichi Furuya (bassoon)The Pacific Quintet was formed in Berlin by five graduates of the 2017 Pacific Music Festival Sapporo (PMF) academy. They are all young virtuosos, including Heli Yu, principal horn player of the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne, and Kenichi Furuya, a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Karajan Academy and a member of the Japan National Orchestra led by Kyohei Sanda. They have already had a successful tour in Japan, winning the second prize at the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition in Copenhagen in 2019. The woodwind quintet, made up of five differently structured instruments, has a lot of work to do just to get the tones together, but they say they have practiced a lot in terms of getting the musicianship right. The program they have chosen for their first CD is a collection of distinctive works from countries related to the members, each filled with their own feelings. The last piece is a masterpiece by Bernstein, the founder of the PMF, whom they met. This is an album of high technique, fresh expression, and a truly pleasant groove that unites the ensemble.
