This is an album of chamber music for flute and strings from around the 1770s, when the Gallant style of melody-centered, easy-to-understand music became popular, before the modern string quartet style of Haydn's middle period and after became widespread. Most of the pieces are nowadays performed in the form of a so-called flute quartet with flute and string trio, but the performers of the WIG Society, formed in Brussels, Belgium, where many excellent old-time musicians are active, have departed from the routine interpretation and have added a contrabass part in the lower part of these pieces, which are not clearly marked as cello parts, and a cello part in the upper part. The WIG Society, formed in Brussels, Belgium, is a group of musicians who have been active in the field of music since the late 18th century, and they use the double bass in the bass part of these pieces, which are not specifically designated as cello parts. The choice of instruments and detailed ornaments were left to the performers at the time, and while the reading of the score was appropriate, the resulting sound impressions are fresh and completely different from those of a typical flute quartet.
