Originally written for orchestra, Haydn himself later created string quartet and oratorio versions, as well as an arrangement for clavier. At the first performance, "After the prelude, the priest went up to the pulpit, read one of the seven words and meditated. As soon as it was finished, he descended from the pulpit and knelt before the altar, and this hour was filled with music. The bishop then appeared at the pulpit for a second and third time, and after the sermon, the orchestra played again. My piece had to be worthy of this expression. The seven words are a reflection on the seven words of the "Piano" and Haydn looks back, and the album follows the structure of the first performance, with a string quartet version performed by Capella Paulana; the reflection on the seven words is by Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Petri (Fraternity of the Priests of St. Peter) priest Julius Kappel (b. 1993) of the FSSP (Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Petri), and the reading is by the famous German actor Michael Koenig. Kappel (b. 1993) of the FSSP (Fraternitas Sacerdotalis Sancti Petri St. Peter's Priestly Brotherhood), and here the famous German actor Michael Koenig does the reading. (Naxos Japan)
