A disc of four recent works by Norway's Rolf Valline, who has a reputation as "the composer who writes the most exciting works" in Scandinavia today. The album includes a violin concerto (solo by the young violinist Eldbjerg Hemsing), which Valline wrote as if he were an alchemist because he believes "the world is one vortex and every vortex is one world," a piece that compares the five elements in ancient China - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water - to the seasons, and a piece by Wu Wei that compares the five elements of the Chinese musical culture - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water - to the seasons. The three concerto pieces are "Five Seasons," a work for shō and orchestra performed by Wu Wei, and "Spirit," featuring bassist Ida Nielsen, who has played with Prince, and "Positive Energy," a piece that is intended to help people mentally escape from the fear of viruses, weather, war, and so on.
