Description:
Francesco Bartolomeo Conti was an Italian Baroque composer and theorbo player. In 1701, at the age of 20, he was hired as a theorbo player by the court orchestra of Vienna, which had heard of his fame, and in 1713 he was appointed court composer, a position he held until 1726, after a series of promotions. He also made his debut as an opera composer in 1706, and until his death in 1732, he left behind 16 operas, 9 oratorios, and numerous stage works, which greatly influenced Handel, J.S. Bach, and others. This album features Conti's works as well as those of his contemporaries, Bononcini and Porziele. The listener can enjoy a wide range of works, from pieces with a comical atmosphere to those that offer an exquisite dialogue between song and instrumentation. The Nuovo Aspettto is an ensemble of various string instruments, including the baritone, the instrument on which Haydn wrote many of his compositions, and a variety of string instruments, including mandolin and salterio, as well as a traverso on the chalumeau, the predecessor of the oboe.
