Löwvari's fourth Sibelius cycle includes the difficult No. 4, the hidden masterpiece of his youth "The Spirit of the Forest," and "The Sad Waltz," the fourth Sibelius symphony cycle that Santu Matthias Löwvari will perform with the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra. The fourth symphony in the Sibelius Symphony Cycle is the most difficult of the seven symphonies. Rouvali's unique yet persuasive interpretations on the previous albums in the series have introduced a new and fascinating interpretation of the work. In this album, too, he succeeds in bringing out various aspects of this work, which is dominated by dark shadows from beginning to end, through his remarkably precise arrangement of the score and his meticulous control and expressiveness, revealing its rich content. The title music "The Spirit of the Forest," based on a poem by Swedish poet Viktor Rydberg, was written by Sibelius when he was about to turn 30, and although it is a powerful work that takes over 20 minutes to perform, it has somehow been forgotten for over half a century. Löwvari has proved his high level of perfection by depicting it with great dynamism and storytelling.And finally, a crisp and tight performance of the popular "Sad Waltz," with an excellent final pull that leaves a lingering impression.
