Paavo Järvi re-recorded Bruckner Symphony No. 8! The second of the three major Bruckner symphonies by Paavo Järvi and the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich is No. 8, re-recorded after 10 years since the last recording of the complete works with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. The previous recording of No. 7, the first in about 15 years, was characterized by a faster tempo in all movements, but No. 8, on the contrary, is slower in all movements, especially in the fourth movement, with a difference of more than 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The performance, however, gives the impression of being more tightened up, and is very powerful and rewarding to listen to. The hall characteristics also contribute to the good results, as each part's phrases stand out and the recording has a clear line of sight.The arrangement of the strings is the same this time, with the violins on both wings and the double basses on the far left, but the Wagner tuba, which was placed independently on the right in the previous performance (No. 7), has been moved to the left to be replaced by the horns. The bass tuba (Tomoki Natsume of the Singapole Symphony Orchestra joined as an extra) was placed almost in the center of the top row, next to the timpani, to give the ensemble an affinity with the Wagner tuba. In addition to the stability provided by the central placement of the lower brass instruments, the first movement climaxes with rhythmic motives by the trumpets and horns sounding from both sides.
