Description:

The long-awaited Offenbach: "La Pericole" from Opera Comique starring Dusz Trak! The setting is Lima, the capital of Peru, in the late 18th century. Pericole and Piquillo, a couple of street singers, perform a song in a busy town square, but the audience's reaction is poor. The two are suffering from hunger. The Governor, Don Andrés, arrives in the city on a secret visit, and plans to make the beautiful Pericole his mistress. After receiving a farewell letter from Pericord, Piquillo tries to hang himself in despair... "The Beautiful Hélène," "Life in Paris," and "Bluebeard" by Offenbach, who became a popular composer after his first success with "Heaven and Hell (Orfe in Hell)" in 1858, La Perricolle" is a hit work that follows "The Grand Duchess of Gerolstan. It is said that Napoleon III, who was the target of Offenbach's satire, greatly enjoyed this operetta, which bitterly satirizes the misbehavior of the rulers of the time and the manners and customs of the day, as is common in Offenbach's works. In this production, Stephanie Dusztrack, who is well known in Japan, sings and acts the title role with great skill.Philippe Talbot as the lover Piquillo, Tassis Christoyannis, Eric Huchet and other expert singers of Offenbach's operettas will support the cast, while the talented Julien Leroy, who was discovered by Pierre Boulez and began his career as assistant conductor of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, will bring Offenbach's joyful, pathos-filled music to life. Julien Leroy, who began his career as assistant conductor of the Ensemble Intercontemporain and is now active mainly in France, will bring Offenbach's music, which is full of joy and pathos, to life. Valérie Rousseau's colorful pop stage design adds a splash of color to this production. Naxos Japan
