Description:

A collection of cantatas by Rudolf Lutz and the Bach Foundation Orchestra. Three cantatas are performed in the 43rd collection. No. 39, "Share Thy Bread with the Hungry," was first performed on June 23, 1726, the first Sunday after Trinity. It is mainly an episode in which the end of Lazarus, the poor man, and the end of the arrogant rich man are compared, depicting love of neighbor, help for a fellow man in need, and gratitude to God for his shelter. This is one of the masterpieces that includes three beautiful arias, including the lengthy first, which quotes words from the Old Testament. No. 89, "O Ephraim, How I Will You," is a work for the 22nd Sunday after Trinity in 1723. It warns of God's wrath against the sinful state of the world and of judgment and retribution. It depicts a sinful man's eventual change of heart to long for God's salvation, and concludes with a powerful chorale. Cantata No. 138, "Why do you grieve, O my heart?" was first performed on September 5, 1723, the 15th Sunday after Trinity. It depicts the anguish of man, who is swept away by the riches of this world, and how he is released by praying to God, with a chorale of unknown author. There is only one aria, a bright, minuet-like piece. This was later converted to the Mass in G major, BWV 236. Naxos Japan
