Debussy's "Sea" and Lieder by Mikko Frank, featuring the remarkable Van Nina Santoni] This is the second Debussy release by Mikko Frank and the French Radio Philharmonic Orchestra on the ALPHA label. Like the previous release (NYCX-10297/ALPHA777), which combined "The Chosen Maiden," "Nocturne," and others, this release combines orchestral pieces with vocal pieces and purely orchestral pieces, but this time the vocal pieces are by Robin Holloway, a contemporary British composer who is also highly regarded for his arrangements of Brahms' works. The vocal pieces included in this recording are a collection of Debussy's "Forgotten Arietta," "Three Romances (Melodies)," and other songs with orchestral accompaniment by Robin Holloway, a contemporary British composer who is also highly acclaimed for his arrangements of Brahms. The arrangements are full of respect for Debussy's works, and each song's worldview has been expanded. French soprano Vannina Santoni, who is currently the focus of much attention, sings the songs. She sang Melisande in "Pelléas et Mélisande" (HMF) by Lotto and Les Siecle, which was highly acclaimed, and she sings with a lustrous voice.In "The Sea," also recorded with the concerto, Mikko Frank and the French Radio Philharmonic give a slow and rich depiction of the colors rising out of the dark sea, and the performance is superb.
