Description:
Ingenieri, a late Italian Renaissance composer known as Monteverdi's teacher, was highly acclaimed during his lifetime for his polychoral music, which makes full use of complex counterpoint. Ingenieri's music is a testament to Renaissance polychoral music, which was at the height of its sophistication on the eve of the transition to the Baroque era. The third collection by Gareth Wilson and the Cambridge Girton College Choir, who are passionate about performing Ingenieri's works, includes a mass and a motet for double choir that uses the chanson "Suzanne is a Day," a big hit during the Renaissance era, as its theme. Six of the album's pieces are performed by an old instrument wind ensemble, which adds variety to the sound. Naxos Japan
