This disc features mainly the string quartets of Krzysztof Penderecki. In the 1960s, Penderecki pursued an avant-garde style that actively used tone clusters, but he gradually became interested in 16th century music, and in the 1970s, he changed his style and released a series of late Romantic-style works. This album contains chamber music works from the 1960s to 2016, with Webern-like music in String Quartet No. 1 and lyrical melodies in String Quartet No. 4. The Clarinet Quartet, titled "Notturno," "Scherzo," "Serenade," and "Abschied" for each movement, is another excellent work. Performed by the Meckhole String Quartet, formed in 2007. The quartet is one of Poland's leading ensembles and has won numerous awards. The Clarinet Quartet also features Jan Jakub Bokun, one of Poland's leading clarinet players. Naxos Japan
