Description:
The new Italian ancient music choir Viscantres performs madrigals and religious works from the Renaissance to the Baroque period in accordance with the styles of the time. The group, which consistently delivers solid yet attractive interpretations, ranging from the solidity of its elite chamber music sound to the precision of its choral ensembles, concentrates on works by composers associated with the Gonzaga family of Mantova, who led Italian court culture during the Renaissance by championing and promoting the arts in various fields. The core of this album is the works of composers from Flanders. The core of the album features De Welt, one of the greatest composers of madrigale in the 16th century, who came to Italy from Flanders, and Monteverdi, a great composer who introduced new techniques and developed not only solo opera but also choral music, which had been practiced since the Renaissance. In addition to the works of De Wert and Monteverdi, who were born out of their connection with the court of Mantova, this fine performance vividly reveals the subtleties latent in the works of Franzoni, Gastoldi, and other composers whose works have rarely been performed. The commentary is also included (with Italian/French/English translations). Naxos Japan
