Rachel Podger is a baroque violinist who played as a member of various ensembles in the U.K., a country that was an early leader in the booming performance of ancient instruments at the end of the 20th century, and later became a world-class soloist. Rachel Podger. Today, Rachel Podger is known for her fascinating performances of Beethoven, Mozart, and other post-classical sonatas on ancient instruments, but it was a Polish group, still not as well-known as it is today, that first brought her to the attention of the scene and triggered her breakthrough. The recording of Vivaldi's "La stravaganza" in its entirety (2002) was made with Arte dei Suonatori, a talented Polish group that was not yet as well known as it is today. The interpretation of the performance, which was carried through to the last detail with a high level of musicality, was clearly conveyed with the feel and reliable engineering of the CHANNEL CLASSICS label, and along with the outstanding performance skills of the unknown ensemble, it was popular not only among Baroque music fans, but also with the fans of the Dutch Baroque. Since then, Pogger has recorded a succession of Vivaldi masterpieces with up-and-coming groups such as Holland Baroque and Brecon Baroque.
