This is a collection of songs by Eric McElroy, a composer born in the United States in 1992 and based in Oxford, England. McElroy, who has already published a number of works for orchestra, chamber music, and piano, is also interested in the poetry of 20th century poets and has published many works based on their texts. Robert Graves' "Dead Man's Leftover Fire" is about war, while Grevel Lindop's "Tongues of Fire," the title of the album, draws on the sensuality of the poem. These songs are sung expressively by veteran British tenor James Gilchrist. His recordings for the label in the "100 Years of English Song" series have been highly acclaimed in the media.
