The reappraisal of past composers in classical music has been overwhelmingly dominated by men until recently. In the 21st century, Europe is rapidly reevaluating the rich musical contributions of female composers who have been unfairly deprived of the limelight. The Center (Palazzetto Bru Zane) is proud to present eight CDs of new recordings (all new since 2019!) of music by Berlioz and other composers, including the most famous French composers of the 19th century. ), focusing on France in the 19th and early 20th centuries, when famous composers such as Berlioz, Saint-Saëns, and Debussy were active, and featuring 21 important women composers who were active there. The program will explore the true extent of their achievements through masterpieces of various scales, ranging from large-scale compositions such as symphonies, symphonic poems, and cantatas to chamber music, songs, and piano pieces.The uncompromising interpretations by performers from France and Italy, including François-Xavier Lhote, who leads the period instrument orchestra Les Siecle, the up-and-coming Belgian conductor David Lelan, and Cyril Dubois and Yann Boulon, who are setting a new standard for French songs, are worth seeing without preconceived notions. Starting with Montgerault, a keyboard musician active at the beginning of the 19th century, to Farancq, an early Romantic who has been reevaluated in recent years, to mid-19th century talents such as Viardot and Jael, to prolific performers from the turn of the century such as Mel Boni and Chaminade, and to new performers such as Auguste Bourdieu, a composer who has been recognized as one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, to the surprisingly few recordings of Auguste Bourdieu. There is no shortage of fresh encounters unique to this label, such as the surprisingly scarce recordings of Auguste Hormes and works by several rare composers who have not even been described in the French Wikipedia/IMSLP. The booklet (in French, English, and German), which contains many valuable illustrations, also includes appropriate introductions to each composer, making this set of inestimable value as a resource.
