Description:

The leading figure of the Neapolitan school of music, Francesco Durante, who interpreted the charm of Neapolitan instrumental music in a rich and colorful manner, was the director of several conservatories in Naples after the death of A. Scarlatti, and nurtured many outstanding composers, notably Pergolesi, who died prematurely. Francesco Durante. His reputation as a composer spread far beyond the Italian peninsula, and his contemporary, the great Bach, performed his works in Leipzig, some of which were attributed to Bach himself because of the completeness of their scores. Although he has attracted attention for his vocal music, especially church music, he composed many four-part instrumental concertos in the 1730s and 1740s without clear solos, and his recordings of these works have been featured sporadically. There have been very few systematic recordings of his works, such as the Concerto Cologne (Capriccio), and it is a pleasure to hear the composer's works performed on ancient instruments by a frontline Italian group. Acquademia dell'Annunciata has just released a unique project (A535/NYCX-10364), a collection of Bach concertos with cello virtuoso Mario Brunello as soloist. Once again, the ensemble will present a deep interpretation of the works that evokes the breath of the Mediterranean Sea, and will take the time to reveal the flavor of each piece.Durante's short but varied movement compositions are a series of interesting sound works in which the charm of the Neapolitan cantabile and Durante's quintessential counterpoint coexist. The enchanting cello concerto by Porpora, a contemporary of Durante, and the unique composition by Fiorenza, who was a maverick and left many thrilling masterpieces while also causing problems, are also included, allowing the listener to enjoy their different styles.
