The Complete Mendelssohn String Quartets by Van Kuyck Q, Vol. 1 Formed in France in 2012, the quartet won the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition in 2015, released a series of albums on the ALPHA label with Mozart at the core, and made a successful first visit to Japan in the spring of 2019 The Van Kuyck Quartet, which won the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition and released a series of albums on the ALPHA label centered on Mozart, and will make its first successful visit to Japan in the spring of 2019. The first volume includes Nos. 1 through 3 in order of composition. The first quartet includes No. 2, written in the composer's late teens in the then still adventurous minor key; No. 1, written at the age of 20 and, like No. 2, strongly influenced by Beethoven; and No. 3, one of three pieces written in his late 20s during his busy life as a composer and performer. The Van Kijk Quartet presents the freshness of the two youthful works and the fullness of No. 3 with their typical flowing musical narrative and dynamic expression. Naxos Japan
