Napravnik, Eduard (1839-1916)

Description:

Eduard Napravnik (Napravnik), a Czech composer and conductor, lost his parents at the age of 14, but studied organ in Prague and rose to fame. In 1869, he became the principal conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre, where he conducted the orchestra for almost half a century until 1916, premiering many operas by Rimsky=Korsakov and others, making a major contribution to the Russian music scene. Napravnik, who was well versed in the sound of orchestral instruments, made the most of their characteristics even in works with small instrumentation, writing music with an extremely colorful sound. The two works on this album are also characterized by long, passionate melodies reminiscent of Tchaikovsky and a polyphonic finish. The performances are performed by a group of virtuosos from Germany, led by Oliver Trindle on piano and Nina Karmon on violins. Naxos Japan
