Tomoko Maeda, a violinist originally from Kamakura who is currently active in Vienna. She began studying the violin at age 3 and the piano at age 4, and as a master of both instruments, her dream was to “one day record herself playing both instruments at the same time.” Then, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she found time to sit down at the piano and, with the assistance of recording engineer Alexander Grün, was able to fulfill her dream of performing three Mozart sonatas on both the piano and the violin. She chose these pieces out of fond memories and gratitude for her teacher, Paul Badura-Skoda, as well as the joy she felt from performing with him. Her dedication is clearly evident in her decision to use a cadenza composed by Badura-Skoda in the Sonata in B-flat major, K. 481. She first recorded the piano part and then played the violin in sync with it. The completed album was featured in the Viennese weekly magazine *Falter* and was also the subject of a special radio program on Vienna Radio, where it received rave reviews. According to the label, this is the first such endeavor since Arthur Grumiaux’s 1959 recording. *The booklet includes a commentary in Japanese written by the performer herself. Naxos Japan
