The Black Oak Ensemble is an internationally acclaimed string trio based in Chicago. On this 2-CD album, you will hear a stylish and witty collection of French works written between the two world wars. Most of the seven works, including a world premiere recording, were dedicated to the Pasquier Trio, a French ensemble active at the time. The seven works include Tomasi's "String Trio in Divertissement Form" with a beautiful finale based on a Provencal folk song, Kula's Trio, which shows the influence of Celtic music brought to Brittany, Gouet's Trio, which was composed on the eve of his departure for war in World War II, and Pierné's satirical "Pieces".
