Description:
Ossie Renaldi, the tragic violinist. This is the complete recording on the Remington label, including the complete Caprices, which are synonymous with Ossie Renaldi. Many great violinists are nurtured by a great teacher, and then work as if they form a school with other great violinists of the same school. However, Ossie Renaldi grew up in a somewhat different environment and died young at the age of 33, which makes his playing style and technique uniquely appealing and interesting to violin fans. Renaldi was born Oskar Reiss on April 26, 1920 in Vienna. At the age of 13, he joined a troupe of traveling entertainers in Merano, Italy, where he performed with jugglers, dancers, and comedians. He performed with jugglers, dancers, and comedians, and took the Italian name Ossie Renaldi, which was invented by his manager at the time.Renaldi moved to the U.S. in 1937, and his debut recital in New York in January of the following year was acclaimed by the New York Times. In 1941, he volunteered for the U.S. Army Band and performed nearly 500 times before his discharge. After the war, he devoted two years to his studies before resuming concerts, including a performance of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto at New York's Lewisohn Stadium in 1953, which drew an audience of 7,000. However, he died in an automobile accident on December 3 of the same year, at the age of 33. Unfortunately, the newspapers were on strike, so his obituary went unnoticed, and it is said that the American music world did not become aware of his death until much later. Renaldi's beloved Gwarneri del Gesù was miraculously saved and is now played by Richard Tognetti. Renaldi's Paganini was very popular. In 1940, he recorded the complete Caprices for RCA, and the Remington recording reissued on this CD is a re-recording made before his unexpected death (both versions are accompanied by piano). The recording was made at the end of the monaural period, and the violin sound has a tautness and luster, and the subtle changes in tone can be heard in this excellent reissue. Naxos Japan
