The 40th anniversary of the Lockenhaus Music Festival was celebrated with a concert of all new works by a cast of outstanding artists. Two cello concertos by Helena Winkelmann and Raphael Merlan were premiered by current artistic director Nicolas Altstedt as soloists, and many new works were performed by artists associated with the festival. The concerto by Winkelmann was 25 minutes long, "Sonnet 74" was 9 minutes long, and the concerto by Merlan was 15 minutes long. The works by popular composers such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leela Auerbach, and Erikki-Sven Thule, and up-and-coming performers such as Patrizia Kopatchinskaja and Olli Mustonen, are presented one after another, creating an interesting kaleidoscope of music. In addition to Kremer, the festival's founder, the participating artists are also magnificent, a feature unique to this music festival. Naxos Japan
