Description:
Master composer Barenboim and the genius Cherniakov present "Tristan and Isolde," a fresh and charming work! The knight Tristan sails to meet Isolde, the Princess of Ireland, who is to become the wife of his uncle King Marke. However, Tristan had once defeated Isolde's fiancée in a duel, but was wounded and taken care of by Isolde. On the return journey home, Tristan and Isolde learn of this fact and, caught in the middle of their love-hate relationship, they attempt to die by drinking poison, but Isolde's maid Brangene replaces it with an aphrodisiac, and they fall in love and burn themselves. Tristan is attacked by King Marke and his vassals when they learn of their meeting. Tristan escapes from the king's castle, but is deeply wounded and dies in Isolde's arms... Conductor Daniel Barenboim considers "Tristan und Isolde" to be an important work in his repertoire. The Berlin State Opera will be the venue for this 2018 performance. For this 2018 production at the Berlin State Opera, he has teamed up with Dmitry Cherniakov, a director in demand in opera houses around the world, to bring fresh charm to "Tristan".Dmitry Cherniakov's direction sheds light on the psychological aspects of the drama, using clever projection mapping to create images of the characters' psychological movements. The production also features some of the finest Wagner singers of our time for this high-level performance. The role of Tristan is played by tenor Andreas Schager, a regular at the Bayreuth Festival who also excels in the role of Parsifal, Anja Kampe, also highly acclaimed in Wagner's female roles, as Isolde, and Ekaterina Gubanova, who has also performed Brangene to great acclaim in Japan.
