Description:

Beginning with "Gold of the Rhine," followed by "Die Walküre" and "Siegfried," the Bulgarian Sofia Opera has impressed with its ability with each successive release of this final Ring cycle. Alberich's son Hagen seduces his half-brother Gunther into giving Siegfried a forgetting potion and betrothes him to his sister Gutrune when they visit the Giebichs' mansion during their travels. Enraged by this betrayal, Brünnhilde vows to take revenge on Siegfried. However, when Siegfried goes hunting with the men of the house, Hagen conspires to kill him, and he returns to the house as a wreck. When Brunnhilde learns the truth, she piles up wood on the banks of the Rhine, sets fire to it, and throws herself into it. The flames consume the heavenly castle of Valhalla and the gods, and the overflowing Rhine swallows the ring, the source of all evil, bringing "The Ring of the Nibelung" to its grand conclusion. Like the previous three productions, the stage for "Götterdämmerung" at the Sofia State Opera is also based on the pop production concept by Plamen Kartakov, with lighting based on primary colors of red, blue, and green, interspersed with mysterious geometric patterns and cones. Here, too, the stage is filled with singers dressed like characters from a special effects monster movie or in costumes reminiscent of rock singers. Except for Georgiev as Alberich and Petar Butchikov as Hagen, the main members of the ensemble have been renewed for this production, and the final chapter of this magnificent cycle is brought to a close with a fresh and enthusiastic performance by a fresh group of singers, including Yordanka Delilova as Brünnhilde.
