Gardiner's lifetime project - the second "The Return of Ulisse" from the video recording of "Monteverdi 450," the world tour of the Monteverdi Opera Trilogy Ticles! Penelope, the wife, laments the fact that her husband, King Ulisse, has not returned home despite his victory in the Trojan War. She is also troubled by three suitors who sit in her husband's absence at court and act unmannerly. Ulisse is saved by the goddess Minerva and returns to her hometown in a shabby state. Penelope, having given up hope that Ulisse is dead, accepts the suitors' proposal and declares that she will marry the one who draws her husband's bow and shoots the arrow the furthest, but no one can draw Ulisse's bow. But no one can pull the bow. Then, Ulisse, who is dressed as a beggar, pulls the bow without difficulty... In 2017, on the 450th anniversary of Monteverdi's birth, Gardiner launched a major project called "Monteverdi 450," which will tour 16 cities around the world from April to October 2017. The project took him on a performance tour of 16 cities around the world from April to October 2017.Among the nine cities that Gardiner toured were Bristol, Venice, Salzburg, Edinburgh, Lucerne, Berlin, Paris, Chicago, and New York, where he performed a trilogy of Monteverdi operas in tandem. Gardiner, who made this tour possible, is now widely known for his performances of Bach and Beethoven, but Monteverdi is his original composer, and the English Baroque Soloists, formerly known as the Monteverdi Orchestra, is his original orchestra. This recording of "The Return of Ulisse" is from the second three-part cycle performed at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the city associated with Monteverdi, as part of the tour. Julio Zanazi, who played Apollo in the previous "Orfeo," sings Ulisse, Lucille Richard, who showed her presence in the role of the messenger, plays Penelope, and Hana Vlasicova, who sang Euridice, takes the role of Minerva, again singing to the high standard that won her acclaim in the "Orfeo. The same high standard of singing that won her acclaim in "Orfeo" is also on display here.The English Baroque Soloists and a vocal ensemble featuring other talented singers will also perform under Gardiner's baton.
