Description:
Beautiful! The sound of an ancient instrument connected to the fortepiano reveals the unexpected charm of Bach's worksThe dulcimer is an instrument that produces sound by striking strings stretched over a sound box with a plectrum. While the dulcimer is best known for its use in traditional Hungarian and Persian music, this type of instrument was also used in court music during the Baroque period and is known to have influenced the birth of the fortepiano in German-speaking countries. Contemporary virtuoso Margit Uberlacker is a resident member of the versatile ancient instrument group Larpeggiata, and has also released a number of recordings on Ramee under the name La Gioia armonica with ancient instrument keyboardist Jürgen Banholzer. This time, he has released a Bach album. The name on the album title is Pantaleon Häbenstreit (1668-1750), a dulcimer player who was favored by the Dresden court for his extraordinary skill. He developed a unique dulcimer named after himself, the Pantaleon, and his skillful playing attracted the attention not only of his employer, the art-loving Elector of Saxony, but also of the great composers such as Kuhnau, Telemann, and Matthyson, as well as the organ builder G. Zilberman and others in the music business. G. Zilberman, the organ builder, and others in the music business.Häbenstreit himself was a first-rate violinist, and in this recording he performs a work for strings with a dulcimer duet and a church organ, an instrument in Bach's private repertoire. From the melodic weak notes of the slow movement to the sparkling passages of the Allegro, the dulcimer's beautiful sound, which is reminiscent of fortepiano and harp, resonates with the church organ, a model Bach knew, in an unexpected way, and brings out unexpected aspects of the work itself through such things as the dispersed chords. The Ramee label's natural engineering, which accurately captures the sound of each ancient instrument, is also very pleasing. Naxos Japan
