Description:
The ballet *La Surse*, revived at the Paris Opera with choreography by the genius Baal—the long-awaited video is here! The story is set in the Caucasus region at the height of spring. A young woman named Nuredda is traveling with a caravan led by her brother Mozdok to join the harem of the local lord, La Khan, as his bride. Along the way, Nuredda spots a beautiful flower blooming high on a rocky mountain and asks the men of the caravan to pick it for her, but they refuse. A young hunter named Jemil, who had been watching from the shadows, picks the flower and hands it to Nuredda, accidentally lifting the veil covering her face and catching a glimpse of her. Nuredda’s brother, Mozdok, flies into a rage, strikes Jemil unconscious, and the caravan departs, leaving him behind. Living in the spring beside where Jemil lay was Naira, the spirit of the spring, who secretly harbored feelings for him. When Naira appeared before Jemil after he regained consciousness and asked him what he wished for, he replied, “To be reunited with the beautiful maiden Nuredda, and to take revenge on those who harmed me”… The ballet *La Source* was premiered in 1866 to music composed jointly by Léon Minkus and Léo Delibes, and premiered at the Paris Opera House, which was then located on Rue Le Perrier. However, the libretto, stage plans, and other production materials were destroyed in a fire at the theater in 1873, and the work subsequently remained absent from the Paris Opera House’s repertoire for nearly 140 years. In preparation for the revival of this work at the Paris Opera, director Clément Hervé-Légé and choreographer Jean-Guillaume Barre reconstructed the libretto, and Barre created a new choreography. Éric Ruf’s set design, based on a jet-black backdrop, was brought to life by Christian Lacroix’s magnificent costumes, and the dancers moved to the elegant, dynamic music composed by Minks and Drieb—under the baton of ballet music specialist Cohen Kessels, the dancers—including Ludmilla Paliéro, Isabelle Ciara Vol, Karl Packet, and Mathias Eymann—all étoiles of the Paris Opera Ballet—as they dance to the elegant and dynamic music co-composed by Minkus and Delibes, conducted by ballet music specialistCohen Kessels.
